How Is Carpet Made

When choosing a product, you need to evaluate each element to understand how the carpet will feel and hold up in your home or business. Here’s what each one means,

Carpet Fibres

Carpet fibre is the material your carpet is made of, either natural or synthetic. Different types of carpets have fibres of varying thicknesses, achieved by spinning individual yarn strands together.

Each strand is called a ply; the more of them, the thicker each fibre of your carpet will be. For example, a 3-ply mat has individual strands spun together and secured to the backing.

Carpet Pile

Carpet pile refers to the arrangement of the fibres in the carpet.

Loop pile carpets have loops on both sides of the backing; Berber is a looped pile carpet.

Low-pile carpets are less dense and durable than high-pile carpets, which are softer and longer.

Upright Pile
